Meet our artists.
Full Circle Arts is a not-for-profit co-operative of
regional artists of all disciplines, whose members work together to encourage public appreciation of, and education in, the
arts.
Exhibiting members display their work continuously in the organization’s sales gallery in downtown Hickory. Associate members join exhibitors to display their work in special exhibitions. Full Circle Arts also provides classes and temporary studio space to its members and to the public. Claudia Bujold (associate member) is interested in how colors and shapes interact and complement each other. Classes with Pat Viles and Vae Hamilton have
inspired a recent interest in collage. Rose Mary Cheek (patron) Anne Fredley (patron) Anne began painting in the fall of 2002. It provided a creative outlet as well as a connection to her mom, also an artist, who had passed away in June. She still feels that connection every time she paints. Because she had always enjoyed trying to capture the beauty of nature in photographs, she gravitated toward landscape
painting. Much of her inspiration comes from photos taken during a trip to Italy, which included a landscape painting
class in Tuscany. She feels such a sense of timelessness and peace in the subjects she chooses. Using fairly
thin layers of paint and dry brushing creates a softer, more serene look. She hopes to continue learning and painting,
as art provides both challenge and fulfillment. Shirley Lee (patron) began her career as an artist late in life, after twenty years on the mission field – in Japan – and over thirty years as a social worker here in the States. Having earned an undergraduate degree in education and a Master’s degree in social work, she took art courses at Caldwell Community College. She works from her home in Hudson, and is represented by two galleries in the area. She paints mostly landscapes, in oils and watercolors, and, through her art, strives to share her admiration for the beauty of God’s creation with the viewer. Paul Milam (patron) P.L. Rhodes (associate member) creates small landscapes to illustrate the spiritual power of the real world by examining its components, their relationships to one another, and their unity with the whole of the universe. Ms. Rhodes lives in a little house in the woods in Conover and has won many awards in area and regional exhibitions. Ellen Schwarzbek (exhibiting member) has recently returned to making art seriously, creating work that is informed by many years of art historical study and work in museums. She loves the magic of art materials, working mostly with acrylic paints, colored and graphite pencils, and various fiber techniques. A major interest is exploring the line between realistic and abstract images. Pamela Smith (patron) |
